Sample Answer (8 bands):
Introduction:
When we talk about maps, the first thing that strikes our mind is Google Maps. Evidently, technology has made inroads into our lives, and technological equipment is ruling the roost today. Although I have used many maps, one was unique and hence worth mentioning.
When did you use it?
It was on my trip to Manali that I realised that we must not ditch the old and traditional methods of information acquisition either. Manali is a beautiful, picturesque hill station away from the city hustle and bustle, the traffic, the din, and the concrete structures. I went there with my friends. We know that the ability to laugh together is the essence of love, and the best opportunity for this is provided by family and friends. They give us strength and support; courage and confidence; love and affection. We ventured on our trip by car and wanted to explore the scenic beauty of this place on our own, so we ditched the guide. We were having a great time, and the 12-hour journey just flew by.
Why do you use it?
On our way, we were supposed to cross a jungle, and just midway, we lost our network. That is when my friend remembered that he was carrying a soft copy of the map.
How was it helpful?
We followed the map and finally made it to our destination. The map was the savior of the soul and provided us with unabated support in the middle of nowhere. Now, whenever I travel to far-off places, I make it a point to carry a physical map with me, and this event never fails to strike my mind. It will always be etched in my heart.

Follow-ups:
Here are some examples of follow-up questions that the examiner might ask during your speaking part 3 related to the cue card: “Describe a time when you used a map.”.
1. Do you often need help?
3. Are some people better at map reading than others?
Yes, some people are naturally “better navigators” and can read maps more easily than others. This ability can depend on spatial awareness, experience, and sometimes just having a “knack” for navigation.
4. Why do some people like travelling to other places?
Many people enjoy traveling to explore new horizons and “broaden their minds.” They seek the thrill of adventure, the beauty of new landscapes, and the enrichment that comes from experiencing different cultures.
5. Should they find information about the place before going there?
It’s wise to “do your homework” before traveling to a new place. Gathering information beforehand can help travelers avoid pitfalls, make the most of their visit, and ensure they don’t “miss out” on the highlights and cultural norms of the destination.
